Mechanical strength of screw joints on SMC-components

Screwed joints have been proven to transmit forces into components of plastics. Practical guidelines are available for thermoplastics, which are almost macroscopically homogeneous and isotropic in their mechanical properties.

These guidelines are only partially transferable to other material groups.
For components made of inhomogeneous thermoset composite materials with a matrix of low strength and a structure, which depends significantly on the component design and manufacturing, design guidelines are determined.

Typical representative of this group of materials is "Sheet Molding Compound - SMC".
