Dry Cleaning of Film Flakes
Using a new process developed by MAS Maschinen- und Anlagenbau Schulz GmbH, used plastics can be simultaneously cleaned and dried. Practically all plastics with contaminants that can be rubbed off are suitable for processing. Paper labels, PP and PS tape, wood, food residues, earth etc. can be reliably removed from even difficult fractions such as stretch film.
Cleaning is accomplished with the aid of DRD (Double Rotor Disk) technology. Here, the cleaning centrifuge and thermal drying are combined in a single machine. The material is first shredded and then conveyed to a dry cleaner. The flakes are dried in a cylindrical chamber while suspended in a stream of warm air. The contaminants are separated with the aid of screens and diverted to a dust collector. The clean flake material can subsequently be fed directly into an extruder. As a result of the uniform condition and low residual moisture content, the entire recycling process is stabilized. The cleanliness of the material ensures long runs before needing to change the screens in the extruder’s melt filtration system.
The dry cleaning process leads to higher product quality and material throughput. Since no water is used in the process, the equipment needs neither its own water treatment system nor a specific operating license. In addition, there are no disposal fees for highly contaminated water. The equipment is supplied with fully automatic controls and is easy to operate. Maintenance is minimal.
