Thermal considerations of tempered single extruding screws: influence of screw tempering to melt temperature
Controlling the temperature precisely during the extrusion process is extremely important to avoid damaging the material and simultaneously ensuring an energetically favourable process. Beside regulating the temperature of the cylinder, tempered screws are also employed to specifically influence the extrusion temperature. A computational model is introduced in this contribution which enables the radial and axial temperature profiles to be predicted within the polymer's melt in the extruder. This model enables tempered screws to be specifically designed.
