Process chains for the production and integration of natural fiber-reinforced high-performance plastics

The Institute of Lightweight Structures TU Chemnitz innovative joining technologies for thermoplastic fiber composites and metals are being developed. The reinforcing fibers at the junction of the composite component are reoriented to suit the load, which can achieve high bond strengths to analog designs in nature. The strength-increasing effect was demonstrated on mixed compounds with deep-drawing steel DC04 and natural fiber reinforced bio-based polyethylene in shear and head-pull-tests. The characteristic values determined were compared with those of established methods with the same joining point diameter and the same combination of materials and finally, the analysis of the joint.
