Polymer Light Guides
Advances in the field of LED technology allow using LED as light source in light guides. Polymers with their material specific advantages are predestined for manufacturing light guides. To investigate both research and praxis relevant issues, a light guide geometry and an adequate mould concept was developed. The moulding studies have shown that the processed polymer has a huge impact on the performance of the light guide. With a closer look on the polymers developed for LED applications, the studies have shown that the more complex injection-compression process offers advantages also for light guide applications in comparison to injection moulding.
