Measurement of mechanical material properties for micro parts on injection moulded micro tensile bars

The injection moulding of micro parts result in a modified material due to process induced changes of the internal properties. A mechanical testing of injection moulded micro tensile bars is used to obtain accurate material characteristics for micro parts. The studies presented here, investigate possible potential influences of error on tensile testing of micro tensile bars. It is apparent from the studies that, in addition to the structural differences, the influence of moisture on hygroscopic materials leads to changes in the measured values. An improper handling and testing tend to have slight effect on the determination of material characteristics.
