Improvement of abrasions resistance of epoxy resin by combination of micro- and nano-particles to a hybrid composite material
Hybrid composite materials were systematically manufactured to investigate the influence of Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> nanoparticles on the abrasion resistance of Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> microparticle reinforced epoxy resin. Therefore abrasion tests were performed by using the Block on Ring test method against SiC abrasive paper. The worn surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to clarify wear mechanisms. From this it follows, that nanoparticles increase the abrasive wear resistance irrespective of counterpart roughness.
