Developing a roadmap of the modified PTFEs - characterization of a high-performance material

In the present work, for the first time non-, low- and high-modified PTFE-materials were analyzed in terms of chemical and physical properties to set up a detailed fingerprint of each material. Based on these fingerprints, it is possible to completely define a PTFE roadmap. The basic properties of each material, the chemical composition and the polymer structures are used to define its position on the map. It is also shown how by well-balancing molecular weight and modifier content the property profile of the materials can be tailored to the specific requirements and applications. Thus, this PTFE roadmap can be considered as an important tool for material selection to choose the right material for the best fit between requirements and material performance.
