Determination of the tribological material indices of thermoplastic granulates

The knowledge of tribological material coefficients of granulates is of great importance for the computation of plastification units. For measuring friction coefficients with high pressures like in a screw channel are present no standardised measurement setup is available, at the Institut für Kunststofftechnik a measuring device was developed. With this tribometer both the outside, and the internal friction values of bulk materials can be determined. Beyond that also the friction speed can be stopped beside the pressure, with which is to be measured. In this paper the friction coefficients of two polyethylenes of low density and two polystyrene were measured.
