Calculation of the material degradation of PP and PS in the plasticizing unit Part 2: Modeling and verification for the single screw extruder
A nonlinear equation for Polypropylene (PP) and Polystyrene (PS) was derived which calculates the material degradation during single screw extrusion as a function of temperature (T), shear rate (γ ̇) and residence time (tv). The modeling and simulation of the whole screw is explained in this publication. The evaluation of the experimental investigation concerning material degradation was analyzed by the gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and the measurement of the intrinsic viscosity (IV). The measured and calculated values were compared and discussed.
