Assembly injection molding of piezo-active sandwich structures

Meanwhile, for the production of complex, multi-material composites the assembly injection molding has established in direct process as well as in insert process. A further step to smart parts is the integration of piezo-electric modules in fiber-reinforced sandwich composites via assembly injection molding. The aim is the ability to detect fatigue of thermoplastic structure parts early or to reduce component vibration in an active way. In the present paper the production technique, the questions about the compatibility of different materials as well as the simulation of the production technique and the material behavior are introduced.
