Weld Line Formation during Injection Molding of Thermoplastic Materials

The thesis gives a brief overview of the theory of the mold filling simulation for thermoplastic materials, particularly emphasizing the difference between the 2.5D and 3D approach. The main work characterizes the plastic flows at the flow front and the weld line areas based on the mold filling simulation using the software FIDAP. The simulation results verified by appropriate experiments enables a better understanding of the relevant phenomena relating to the formation and the strength of the weld lines in injection molded thermoplastic parts.
