Vibration Hot Melt Bonding of Fiber Reinforced Plastics with Thermoset Resin Process – Structure – Properties

A vibration hot melt process for the manufacturing of flat joining of fiber reinforced thermosets was investigated. The process characteristics as well as the performance of the obtained joint were evaluated.

Two step vibration hot melt trials with a fully-instrumented vibration welding machine show that each single step of the vibration hot melt process can be divided into three phases, like it is known for conventional vibration welding. The processing approach proved to be feasible similar to the conventional vibration welding process.

The investigated process parameter do not affect the bonding strength of the investigated joints significantly. Great influence on the bonding strength shows the fiber content of the hot melt system and the reinforcement of the basic material.

The results can only be conditionally transferred from PA6-GF50 as hot melt and EPGF as basic material to other materials.
