Xeran Copolymers and Terpolymers

Improve Adhesion and Optimize Interfacial Tension

Polyscope has broadened its portfolio of Xiran neat resins, compounds, powders and liquids with a range of Xeran compatibilizers. The maleic anhydride functionality in these copolymers and terpolymers makes them extremely suitable as a compatibilizer and coupling agent in many applications.

The Xeran portfolio opens a window to new polymer systems that need compatibilization, as Xeran improves the adhesion between two polymers which are normally immiscible. Additionally it optimizes the interfacial tension and offers stabilization of the morphology against high stresses during conversion. The compatibilization results in a significant improvement of the mechanical properties, predominantly impact performance. The styrene based Xeran polymers are highly suitable for compatibilize styrene based engineering plastics.

Different immiscible polymeric systems need different compatibilizers. The new Xeran portfolio consists of polymers with varying molar mass and varying maleic anhydride functionality. Polyscope has developed Xeran grades that compatibilize compounds of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA), compounds of polyamide (PA) and ABS and compounds of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and ABS or ASA. Polyscope also offers a Xeran coupling agent to enhance performance of styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) with glass fibers.
