Micro-Injection Molding with LSR
Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH, Kottingbrunn, Austria, is showing the full PowerSerie program – supplemented with the new SmartPower machine series. The SmartPower is equipped with servo hydraulics as standard and is the latest member of the PowerSerie (Fig.). It is intended to combine the advantages of hydraulic with those of electric machines. The new series, available from January 2015, will cover the clamping force range from 250 to 1,200 kN. Wittmann Battenfeld presents two applications on machines of this type: the manufacture of a polyamide connecting rod for a compressor with an eight-cavity mold from Greiner Packaging GmbH, Kremsmünster, Austria, and the production of a pencil holder from LSR with a four-cavity mold from Elasmo Systems GmbH, Schörfling, Austria.
Wittmann Battenfeld demonstrated another liquid silicone application on the MicroPower 15/10 machine designed for injection molding extremely small and micro parts. The processing of liquid silicone on a micro scale is intended to demonstrate the possibilities of LSR processing in this increasingly important sector. The micro injection molding machine with a mold from awetis engineering+manufacturing GmbH, Laudenbach, Germany, produces lenses from a two-component liquid silicone (manufacturer: Momentive Performance Materials GmbH, Leverkusen, Germany). The exhibited machine is a completely integrated cleanroom cell with rotary table, removal handling unit, integrated quality control and a cleanroom module that provides clean air of Class 6 as per ISO 14644-1. The parts are injection molded in the cleanroom, inspected by imaging technology and put down.
With a highly integrated EcoPower 240/1330 machine, Wittmann Battenfeld, in cooperation with its partner Schaumform GmbH, Hutthurm, Germany, presents the production of foamed interior parts for the automotive industry. The manufacturing cell combines the company’s own Cellmould process for foaming and Variomould for dynamic mold temperature control with the HiP high-precision opening program. In this manner, foamed parts with good surface quality are obtained. The temperature-control unit required for dynamic temperature control is operated directly via the machine control system.
