Ultrasonic Welding in Medical Technology
An ultrasonic welding machine that, thanks to its electrical drive, meets the strict requirements for narrow tolerances, traceability and hygiene that are necessary for medical technology is offered by Rinco Ultrasonics. According to the company from Romanshorn, Switzerland, the machine’s electrical drive and the control by means of an ultrasonic generator with built-in industrial PC allows particularly precise control of the sonotrodes, e. g. in path mode, a positioning accuracy of 0.01 mm is possible. The welding force and speed are also precisely adjustable. At its operating frequency of 20 kHz, Electrical Motion delivers constant, reproducible welding, stamping, cutting and sealing of molded parts and films.
Furthermore, limit values can be set on the machine, which trigger a warning or stop the machine to ensure reproducibility, and therefore quality. To ensure the monitoring and documentation required for medical applications, the defined welding parameter records and the welding results can be exported from the internal memory to an external data carrier.
In addition, a non-erasable audit trail records all events, for example maintenance, and changes to parameters, which helps to improve quality and traceability. The possibility for setting up different hierarchy levels ensures that only authorized persons can change parameters or acknowledge events. For cleanroom production, Electrical Motion is certified to ISO class 6.
The electrical machine drive also allows the starting position of the sonotrode to be freely chosen. Unlike with the pneumatic drive, this does not need to be zeroed for every welding cycle. Thanks to the integrated quick-change system, tools can be exchanged within a few minutes, which reduces downtimes.
