Processing Plastics with Additional Functions

Sophisticated Parts of High-Performance Materials

The compact sensor housing with injected TPE seal is used for tire pressure monitoring in trucks (figure: Alligator)

The processing of plastics with outstanding chemical or mechanical properties presents a major challenge to processors. Weiss Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH & Co. KG, Illertissen, Germany, specializes in the processing of such materials, for example for applications in the engine compartment, in the body structure of cars, in the chassis of commercial vehicles or (as sensor housings) in truck tires. Metals are frequently substituted and additional functions are integrated into the plastic parts. At its fair booth, Weiss Kunststoffverarbeitung will be demonstrating i. a. a sensor housing for truck tire pressure control systems that is produced in large quantities by 2C injection molding with injected TPE seal (Fig.), as well as automotive components such as brake servo housings made from a glassfiber-reinforced polyamide that as a highly viscous material makes high demands on the process control.
