The new Genioplast processing aids from Wacker Chemie AG, Munich, Germany, are claimed to save energy in the production of wood plastic composites (WPCs). The thermoplastic silicone additive also improves the mechanical properties and water-repellency of wood-polymer composite materials, which are increasingly in demand in the construction, automotive and furniture industries.
Easier processing, of bioplastics in this case, is also the goal of the Vinnex product group. They facilitate production of biodegradable films from polylactide (PLA) and polybutylene succinate (PBS) as well as improving heat-sealing properties in paper coating. There are also benefits in 3D printing, because heat-sensitive and highly complex parts can now be made.
