Tunnel gate inserts

Invisible Gating of Miniature Parts

Tunnel gate inserts

The extremely small tunnel gate inserts from i-mold GmbH & Co. KG, Brensbach, Germany, are used for the almost invisible gating of miniature parts with typical weights between 0.1 and 5g. Such parts are increasingly required, e.g., in the automotive, electronic, and electrical industries and in medical technology. The various designs of these mini-gate inserts are particularly suitable for multicavity molds. They permit the advantages of side or bottom gating, while reducing the distances between cavities. This results in a smaller, cost-effective mold, which can also be operated on a smaller injection molding machine with lower hourly costs. In addition, because of the very low melt-channel volume of the inserts, sprue waste is also minimized. For very large numbers of cavities, they can be combined with a single hot-runner. In this case, several tunnel-gate inserts are supplied by a single hot-runner to achieve a further reduction in the sprue waste.

The new mini-inserts can be used for processing any thermoplastics, even containing fillers, and all thermoplastic elastomers. Some of the new inserts can be contoured to adapt them to the specific mold situation. Like the larger models, the mini-inserts are also available in two hardness classes U (40 HRC) and H (60 HRC).
