Phyllosilicates as Synergistic Fire Protection
Flame retardancy can be enhanced with Adins phyllosilicates from the Tolsa Group, Madrid, Spain. The phyllosilicates work synergistically with halogenated and non-halogenated flame retardants, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or elastomer systems, to reduce smoke and heat release, which is a specific requirement in the transport sector. They can also be modified to ensure good dispersion within the material and to provide the best-possible bond between them and the polymer. According to the manufacturer, this makes the phyllosilicates easier to incorporate and expands their field of application into polymers, such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)/polyethylene (PE). Applications in other types of polymer are being planned.
