Thermoformable, thin-wall Cycoloy sheet

With its thermoformable, thin-wall Cycoloy sheet, Sabic Innovative Plastics, Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands, is meeting hospitals’ demand for smaller, lighter weight and more practical equipment. Thanks to the versatile range of properties of this PC-ABS blend engineering material, it can be used to realize compact designs. For example, it retains its dimensional stability when covers are subject to external forces and/or stresses, such as intense heat. Its high impact strength and stiffness provide durability and dimensional stability to thin-wall applications.
It has the chemical resistance to ensure that surfaces retain their matt effects even after repeated disinfection and cleaning. Unlike thermosets, most of which must be colored by painting, the material can be pigmented in a variety of shades.
The new sheet meets the EU directives on restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS directive) and the waste electrical and electronic equipment directive (WEEE). It also meets UL94 V-0 flammability classification at 1.5 mm without the use of bromine or chlorine-based flame retardants.
The plates have also been successfully used in computer tomography scanners from GE Healthcare, and are claimed to have significantly reduced equipment sizes.
