Resists Heat Ageing
TechnoFiber PP LGF, a polypropylene material by TechnoCompound GmbH in Bad Sobernheim, Germany, includes protection against thermo-oxidative degeneration. Its special formulation makes it possible to increase heat ageing resistance at 150°C temperature to a period substantially longer than 2,000 h. According to manufacturer information, this also applies to components with extremely long flow paths and high surface-to-mass ratios, and the values achieved in tests were as high as 1,000 h, 2,000 h, or even 2,500 h, subject to the respective requirement.
The material is applied today in various automotive applications, e.g. in roof frame systems. This component is a good example of the required long-term resistance to oxidation, because it has to withstand all factors leading to autocatalytic chain degradation. Undesired effects of heat, sunlight and atmospheric oxygen on the polymer can thus be prevented over a very long period of time.
In addition to its high oxidation resistance, the material also fulfills the requirements referring to emission and odor (E) defined by VDA270, VDA277 and VDA278 standards. It is generally suitable for applications in the vehicle interior. A press release of the company states that measured values are significantly below limit values. If required, the material can also be protected against long-term stress from sunlight and photochemical damage, by providing optimum UV stabilization.
