Steel Grades SF-2000 LQ40 and SF-2050

High Polishability and Excellent Machinability

Sorel Forge Co., St-Joseph-de-Sorel (Quebec) Canada, a company of the Schmolz+Bickenbach Group, Emmenbrücke, Switzerland, presents the new highly polishable pre-hardened steel grades SF-2000 LQ40 and SF-2050.

These new steel grades feature excellent polishability and excellent machinability, especially for large-size applications requiring flawless surfaces, such as moulds for headlamp lenses or windshields of passenger cars. Both products enable competitive manufacturing with high production runs. For particularly large plastic moulds, e.g. for bumpers, Sorel Forge offers the pre-hardened tool steel SF-2000.

SF-2000 LQ is an electroslag remelted (ESR) prehardened steel for superior polishing capability. This high quality steel is offered in two hardness ranges: LQ36 (34-38 RC) and LQ40 (38-42 RC). Typical applications include clear lens molds and mirror surface finish molds (SPI A1 and sharper).

SF-2050 is a new super hard steel supplied in the prehardened condition for improved wear resistance of parting lines for reinforced plastic injection. Typical applications include injection molds, compression molds, long run molds, abrasive/reinforced plastic injection molds and dies for non corrosive plastic extrusion.
