Robust Pellet and Regrind Dryer
If plastics and regrind have to be separated from adhering water, mechanical drying using centrifugal force is the preferred method.The S+L dryer from Econ GmbH, Weisskirchen an der Traun,Austria, can reduce the residual moisture content of pellet stock to 0.1 to 0.5 wt.-%, and of regrind to 1 to 3 wt.-%. This reduces the effort for thermal drying before processing by injection molding or other processes. The moist material is fed to the vertical drying compartment and set into rotation. A cylindrical screen positioned concentrically around the rotor keeps the plastic material back while water can escape due to the centrifugal force, and is drained away. A special feature of the dryer is its cast aluminum housing, which ensures high stability, quiet operation and a long lifetime.
The housing is universally designed so that it is compatible with many complete systems. The cover, which is also made of cast aluminum, can be mounted in 30° steps, and thus be adapted to downstream plant components. The material can be fed as required. For example, via a feed screw in the case of regrind, or by means of different inlet housings that are matched to the different water contents or to specific weights of plastic pellets. Similarly, the screens can be adapted to the material consistencies. The dryer is available in four sizes and other options are available for matching it to special applications. Examples include gas-tight operation under a nitrogen atmosphere or a wear-resistant version for processing abrasive plastics.
