Higher Thermal Conductivity, Lower Viscosity and Good Flowability
HPF The Mineral Engineers, a division of Quarzwerke Group, Frechen, Germany, launches the second generation of thermally conductive fillers Silatherm. Silatherm is a mineral based filler to increase the thermal conductivity with still good mechanical properties at the same time. In addition to the already launched grades, Silatherm Plus, the second generation of HPF thermal conductive mineral filler, was developed.
Whether for automotive applications, in E&E industry or in other branches, the demand for thermal conductivity of plastic compounds is in full progress and will stay, as an important development matter, surely for a long time. The use of thermal conductive plastics has different advantages which allow the realization of solutions for various applications for the challenges of the present and future times like down-sizing, complex geometries, lightweight construction and efficient production.
With the focus on higher thermal conductivity, lower viscosity and good flowability, first positive tests were made with Silatherm Plus in other matrix materials and thermoset application systems (epoxy resin). In the meantime, also thermoplastic polymers were investigated for the target application markets like EMC (electro mechanical components), Automotive, LEDlightning systems and several others. Beside this, also new methods were tested with the aim to have as low negative influence on the mechanical properties of the plastic compound as possible.
