Measure, Control and Analyze

Sikora

Purity Concept: The systems inspect and analyze pellets, flakes and film as well as tapes (© Sikora)

Measurement, control, analysis and sorting technologies have become very important tools in design and quality assurance. The data obtained provide a good insight into process events and serve as a basis for intervention. Sikora AG, Bremen, Germany, manufacturers systems for quality assurance and process optimization.

Centerwave 6000 is a system that, with the aid of millimeter wavelength radiation, measures the inside and outside diameters, ovalness, wall thickness and sagging of large plastic pipe ranging from 120 mm to 2500 mm in size during extrusion. One advantage of the system is its ability to also measure the wall thicknesses in multi-layer pipe. The measurements are made at several spots around the circumference of the pipe without the use of coupling medium and independently of the material and temperature of the item being measured. Inspection and analysis of pellets, flakes and film or tape is also highly relevant for quality assurance. Purity Concept is suitable for inspection of these online and off-line, and operates with x-ray, infrared or visible wavelengths.

Also new is the Purity Scanner for online inspection and sorting of plastic material with the objective of allowing only pure material into the next production process. The unit combines x-ray radiation with an optical measuring system and detects contaminants as small as 50 μm both on the surface and within the plastic pellets. Contaminated pellets are diverted automatically.
