Electric Series Expanded
The market for electric injection molding machines is growing continuously. Accordingly, Billion S.A.S., Bellignat, France, has extended its electric Select series downwards to 500 kN and upwards to 4,000 kN. By expanding the range of clamping forces available, the company claims to be responding to the demands of the market for a comprehensive range of electric solutions. The lower end of the clamping force range is targeted at electrical (e.g. connector) and medical applications as well as packaging, while the upper end of the range aims at large two-component applications or the automotive industry. Since introduction of the series at the K2007, 30 % of machines delivered have been all-electric, and the trend is growing. Almost all remaining hydraulic machines are equipped with electric screw drive.
The Select series features precise and generously dimensioned electric drives in combination with reliable sensor technology. The machines use air-cooled servo motors for each individual machine movement. These servo motors with power boosters allow the operator to control injection unit speeds and nozzle contact force very accurately. The manual adjustments known from hydraulic machines are no longer necessary. The long stroke of the injection unit has proven to be very useful when inspecting the nozzle and for maintenance tasks. Billion demonstrated its electric machine capability at the Fakuma 2009. A 32-cavity mold running on an energy-efficient Select 50T-80H (500 kN) produced medical parts.
