Intarema RegrindPro Recycling System
Separating Mixed Fractions and Thick-Walled Components
The Intarema RegrindPro recycling system from Erema Engineering Ges.m.b.H., Ansfelden, Austria, is designed for processing thick-walled components from the packaging, electronics and automotive sectors. It can specifically handle thick-walled input material, e. g. high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and polystyrene (PS). The treatment process handles mixed fractions of variable composition, high bulk density and moisture, extremely varying contamination with all kinds of impurities such as rubber and silicone, soft contaminants such as wood and paper, and foreign polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyamide (PA).
The recycling system processes these residues extremely gently with the aid of high-efficiency filters. The thick-walled regrind particles are thoroughly warmed in a preconditioning unit through slower rotation of the patented rotor disc and a longer dwell time. As a result, the material can melt in the extruder under low shearing forces. At the same time, the impurities in the melt remain large enough to be screened out by the filter, according to the manufacturer.
The combination of optimized preconditioning unit and a new universal screw offers flexibility over material selection and so supports multipurpose regrind processing. This allows regrind of variable viscosity, as in the case of HDPE and PP, to be processed gently on the same system and at full output, says the manufacturer.
The high-performance filter systems ensure continuously high throughput combined with good melt quality. The recently enhanced laser filter removes contaminants even more quickly due to the redesign of the scraper geometry and discharge system, leading to good filtration results.
