PrimePart ST and PrimePart FR
Enhanced Range of Materials
Two new plastics materials have been presented by EOS GmbH Electro Optical Systems in Krailling, Germany, designed for industrial 3-D printing: PrimePart ST (Peba 2301) is a soft, flexible and elastic material from the group of thermoplastic elastomers, while PrimePart FR (PA 2241 FR) is a flame-retardant polyamide 12.
With its 200 % fracture elongation and its good resilience as well as impact resilience, the ST type is well suited for the production of flexible, rubbery components. Even after severe deformation, components will assume their original shape, if design is appropriate. At a temperature range between -40 °C and 90 °C, the material's fatigue behavior is good. It is suitable for applications such as sports equipment. Its resilience makes the material suitable for a wide range of applications. Moreover, it may be used for consumer goods, i.e. for instance, in casings with a risk of falling or breaking. Considering the industrial field, the automotive sector is a potential user: auxiliary equipment for vehicle assembly such as protection for handles, edges or varnished surfaces may be produced from this material, just as soft components of door locks. Medical applications, e.g., instrument grips or orthopedic products are possible, as well as the manufacture of tubes, grippers or resilient cable fixtures for industrial use.
The FR plastic type is designed for use in aircrafts. The material can be regenerated, with a supplement of at least 60 % of virgin powder recommended, and complies with the relevant flame proofing regulations for 1.0 mm wall thicknesses. In addition, tensile strength is 49 MPa and fracture elongation is 15 %. Air ducts and air outlet nozzles may be considered as typical examples of aircraft interior applications.
