Cooling Simulation with Temp-Flex Hoses
Users can now precisely simulate and design the mold temperature control already at the planning phase.

Simcon kunststofftechnische Software GmbH, Würselen, Germany, has expanded the functions of its modular simulation software Cadmould. Users can now precisely simulate and design the mold temperature control already at the planning phase - and now, in the current version 11, also with the use of Temp-Flex hoses from Hasco Hasenclever GmbH + Co. KG. In this way, it achieves more effective, uniform temperature control with fewer trial iterations - this saves money and time.
Compared to simple cooling channels, it allows conformal cooling of even complicated part geometries with Temp-Flex hoses. Gentler routing of the temperature-control medium reduces the pressure drop and increases flow rates. Complex components are cooled faster and with less warpage - this ensures a higher production capacity and better part quality. The hoses eliminate complicated sealing between the mold planes, as with cooling bores having contact with several mold plates.
With Only One Click
“When cooling water flows through a bore and is in direct contact with the mold wall, the heat transfer is naturally different from when the water comes into contact with a hose wall first,” explains Angela Kriescher, product manager at Simcon. “This thermal behavior – including the effect of the hose diameter and flow rate, as well as the length of the cooling channel, and the resulting pressure loss – is now taken into account by Cadmould 11 with only one click. The extended “T-Box” module automatically determines the heat transfer coefficient and displays the temperatures at each point in the system. Users can also vary all parameters, such as the arrangement of the cooling channels, flow direction, parting surfaces or materials in order to ideally design the injection mold.
In the past, the mold partings were determined by trial and error, the cooling channels milled and the hoses inserted. Cadmould 11 makes this more efficient: According to Kriescher the software calculates the flow of the coolant fluid and, by heat exchange with the mold, the current temperature of the heat exchange medium. The result is a highly precise 3D simulation of the temperature control.
