Plug ‘n Play valve gate system

Hot Runner Solutions for Automotive Lighting

Plug ‘n Play valve gate system

The Plug ‘n Play valve gate systems from Synventive Molding Solutions GmbH, Bensheim, Germany, feature threaded nozzles with pneumatic cylinders. As the nozzle head is not supported in the mold, there is no temperature drop in the critical area where the melt changes direction from the runner to the nozzle. The resultant constant temperature profile along the melt channel and a perfect flow channel alignment assure the best part quality in demanding automotive lighting applications.

Synventive has addressed the challenges of molding lens materials such as PC and PMMA by developing special gate geometries and tip materials to improve the aesthetic surface finish on the molded part. To achieve the best possible hot/cold material transition, high-performance heaters with integrated thermocouples are used near the gate surface, along with stainless steel cooling bushings. The result is an optically perfect gate surface on the part. For rear-light lenses with 3-D surfaces and multiple colors (often clear and translucent red), Synventive offers direct gating onto the lens surface, which is normally molded from PMMA. For front-light lenses, which are typically molded from PC, Synventive offers the cold-runner solution and the direct gating option.

Synventive recently supplied a leading light systems molder with a hot runner that gates directly onto the clear PC lens at a non-visible part section. The outcome is flawless surface quality and elimination of the need to remove the cold runner. Synventive also provided the hot runner system for molding the black lens housing. Synventive systems have long been used for numerous optical parts, such as light guides, LED lenses, bezels, metallized reflectors and housings which require a perfect part surface.

The portfolio also boasts solutions for technical parts in the automotive lighting market for applications which use heat-resistant polymers and parts that are made of highly wear-resistant plastics. These are among the latest developments in light cone adjustments and optical systems.
