Novelties for Exterior and Interior Applications
Polykemi AB, Ystad, Sweden, has the automotive sector firmly in its sights and is positioning itself with innovations in blends, high-performance plastics, and lightweight design and recycling applications at Fakuma 2017.
Automotive exterior components are being catered for with various blends of polycarbonate (PC) and PBT, Polylux MP4011. According to the manufacturer, these blends have a wide processing window in injection molding and good surface appearance. For automotive interiors, various blends of PC and ASA are being specially customer-tailored to create the desired color and degree of gloss, taking due account of the mold surface. Lightweight design applications are being served by the systematic replacement of glass-fiber-reinforced PBT and polyamide (PA) with Polyfill PP HC, a glass-fiber and mineral-reinforced polypropylene (PP). At the same time, the new members of the Scanrex product family, two glass-fiber-reinforced PPA grades, are also replacing loadbearing metal applications under the hood. To help auto manufacturers fulfill their recycling quotas, various recyclates are being supplied, which Polykemi claim can replace virgin material without compromising quality. Through comprehensive quality control of input products, recyclates can be supplied as standard products under the brand name Repro and customer-tailored recyclates under the brand name Rezycom. These even have material approvals for underhood or interior applications.
