Nexamite PBO Additive

Strong Performance in Many Application Areas

Nexam Chemical introduces a new multifunctional additive with intended use as chain extender and crosslinker. Nexamite PBO is also an effective compatibilizer and acid scavenger in the manufacture of virgin polymer blends, engineering plastics and recycling of mixed plastics.

Nexamite PBO technology improves melt viscosity, hydrolytic stability and heat resistance, which is useful in a variety of industries. The chemical, physical and mechanical properties, along with the ease of formulating better performing materials provides opportunities to use Nexamite PBO in a wide range of plastic materials and manufacturing processes. For example, it contributes to the manufacture of composite materials targeting low energy/ high-speed trains and lightweight construction. The renewable energy market requires high-performed materials to achieve strong stability and rigidity at minimal weight. Nexamite PBO makes it possible to develop fiber and foam materials that contributes many parts of wind turbine applications, like spinners, blades and nacelles.

Nexamite PBO technology is based on 1,3-Phenylene-bisoxazoline. It connects the carboxy terminal groups of polyesters, polyamides and other polymers without the formation of volatile by-products.

Added values using Nexamite PBO are:

  • Improved hydrolytic and thermal stability
  • Allows for the use of low viscosity polymers
  • Enables for upgrading of spent and recycled material
  • Allows for controlled branching and crosslinking degree
  • Makes possible for the compatibilization of polymer blends.
