Multi-component injection blow molding
Plastic Sandwich with Added Value
Sabic Innovative Plastics of Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, has developed its own expertise in multi-component injection blow molding for the healthcare sector. With this processing technology, packaging designers and developers can overcome the limitations of monomaterial solutions such as glass. Multi-component blow molding integrates the crystal-clear and virtually unbreakable polycarbonate Lexan HP into traditional layer materials for packaging applications to provide a solution that meets the performance requirements demanded of glass and conventional plastics. The result is a sandwich of two outer plastic layers and an inner barrier layer. Pharmaceutical and IVD packaging such as ampules, test tubes and drug containers can therefore benefit from the high transparency, suitability for autoclave sterilization, potential for advanced hemocompatibility, lower protein binding and high impact strength offered by Lexan HP combined with the gas and/or moisture barrier properties of conventional barrier plastics such as amorphous polyamide 6 or cyclic olefins.
