Slides with Almost No Resistance
Kraiburg TPE GmbH & Co. KG, Waldkraiburg, Germany, has expanded the Thermolast M product group specifically for medical applications. Designated the MT series, the newly developed formulations feature an extremely low coefficient of friction. This translates into very good frictional characteristics, which benefit not only manufacturers, but also end users – from physicians and caregivers to patients, since wherever fast and easy sliding over plastic surfaces is required, e.g. in insulin pens or as syringe plungers, the material provides only minimal resistance when used as a sealing element.
At the same time, it ensures delivery of an exact dose without the stick-slip effect. The improved frictional characteristics are also beneficial in the case of minimally invasive surgery: to prevent injuries, the operating instruments often have a protective TPE sheath. Thanks to the low friction, the steel slides effortlessly through the sheath, allowing instruments to be exchanged quickly and easily as needed.
The compounds comply with the standards DIN ISO 10993/5/10/11 and USP Class VI for medical applications.
