Barriers for Cans and Preforms
Milacron LLC, Cincinnati, Ohio/USA, will be placing a strong emphasis on co-injection barrier technology at its booth. The "Klear Can" is a recyclable, multilayered transparent box made of plastic that could soon replace steel cans as packaging for food products with a long shelf. As Milacron recently confirmed the sale of its first production system, the novelty is likely to be on the shelves in 2017. The plastic containers are BPA-free and are compatible with existing filling, sealing and sterilizing equipment in canneries. The application, including IML labeling, runs on a Ferromatik machine with 2800 kN clamping force.
Following Milacron’s re-entry into the PET machinery market at NPE 2015, the M-PET 300 will make its European debut at K 2016. The servo-hydraulic system combines all the key components from the manufacturer’s product portfolio in a single solution: machine, injection mold, hot runner system and handling robots. When used in combination with the co-injection system from Milacron, the resultant system supports, e. g., the production of PET preforms for dairy products and light-sensitive beverages in a layer sequence of white/black/white. This market has hitherto been dominated by multilayer cardboard.
