New Extruder and Melt Filters
The core product of the extrusion machine maker MAS Maschinen- und Anlagenbau Schulz GmbH, Pucking, Austria, is the conical twin-screw extruder with co-rotating screws, which, according to the manufacturer, offers gentle plastication together with good feed characteristics. The third generation is now available in six different sizes with an output range from 10 kg/h to over 2000 kg/h. The most important technical development is the segmented cylinder design, made up of several subsections. As an alternative to exchanging a complete cylinder, it permits individual abrasion-damaged cylinder sections to be exchanged. In addition, MAS is expanding its portfolio with the MAS 24 laboratory extruder, which was developed for plastic manufacturers and compounds to develop formulations under practical conditions and produce them in small amounts.
The screw length of only 400 mm and conical screws with a diameter of 48 mm to 24 mm are equipped with exchangeable mixing elements in a similar way to the larger models. Their output rate is in the range from 10 to 35 kg/h. The continuous melt filter series has also been upgraded. The filter systems are provided with an innovative pneumatic pressing unit for the scraper. The contact pressure is adjustable to suit the degree of contamination and is independent of the melt pressure. Other features of the new filter are improved melt channels in the housing interior for reducing melt pressure losses, and a new heater layout with plate heaters and band heaters for improving the temperature constancy.
