Polyolefin Laminations – A Recipe for Success
Macchi S.p.A., Varese, Italy, will be demonstrating the production of a 5-layer polyethylene film for stand-up pouches, which was recently developed in cooperation with Dow Chemical, Midland, USA. Seeing the clear trend toward multi-layer polyolefin films that emerged at K 2013, Macchi invested further in film and process development, seeking to reduce the cost of the film through down-gauging. By dint of a 30–40 % saving on raw materials and the exclusive use of polyethylene, it is possible to both reduce the production costs and to improve the recyclability of stand-up pouches. These possess high growth potential because the packaging is customer-friendly and resource-efficient.
