Lever Knobs for the Automotive Industry

Keeping a Good Grip on Everything

Lever Knobs for the Automotive Industry

Lever Knobs for the Automotive Industry must satisfy the highest standards in terms of product design and functionality. Vauth-Sagel GmbH, Paderborn, Germany, produces these components which are notable for their superior quality and brilliance in black, silver or galvanized chrome. Often, it has to accommodate requests by vehicle manufacturers, e.g. for the décor to match that of other vehicle interior components, reflective surfaces and for the transparent knob cover to have a lens-like design. Scratch resistance of the lever knobs is essential.

To ensure a long product life and that hand creams, sweat and cleaning agents will not cause engraving to fade, the badges are decorated from the back. Galvanic chrome plating of the carrier element, too, is carried out in accordance with the very highest standards in the automotive industry – to ensure that the appearance is retained over the entire life cycle of the vehicle.

The bond between the transparent décor badge and the gear lever is essential for the gear lever knob to function properly. Once the badges have been flush-fitted and present a large and even surface, the bond is realized by means of double-sided adhesive tape. If the lever knob construction deviates from this design, other techniques are called for, e.g. badges that require a small, defined adhesion surface. In such cases, the adhesive is applied by a metering robot. If there is no edging for the badges or if they are extremely spherical in design, a paste-like bonding adhesive needs to be used. After bonding of the gear lever knob and the badge, the finished product is resistant to temperatures exceeding 100°C.
