Flexible Sealing Systems

KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH in Munich, Germany, have enhanced their sealing systems for foaming molds. There is a conflict between two targets here, and that is effective sealing and well-aimed ventilation, which represents a basic challenge. The newly developed SealStar system was designed to meet both requirements and allows for flexible use. Inflatable at full length, the system seals corners and connection areas in a safe and efficient way. Over its entire length, the sealing path remains the same for ventilation/degassing of the component, which reduces the risk of inclusions. Moreover, the operator can change the system during running production without requiring any additional tools.

KraussMaffei also offers an electronic system to monitor the seal, which supports the quality of component production and eventually steps up productivity. A flow sensor checks the inflatable seals for damage. If a seal is defective, the sensor notices air flow in the respective section. Via a signal acquisition system, the exact position of the damage can be determined, enabling the user to repair it in a well-targeted manner.
