Cascade Compounding Line

According to the manufacture, the cascade extrusion process from KraussMaffei Berstorff GmbH, Hanover, Germany, PE and PP wastes, but also recyclates of other polymers, can be reprocessed into high-quality recompounds. For this process, two process steps are connected directly in series. The first extruder feeds the washed and sorted recyclate, optionally with prior size reduction or agglomeration, melts it, homogenizes it and degases the melt. Fine filtration at the end of the process unit removes the last contaminants. This treatment may optionally be carried out on a single-screw or twin-screw extruder. Then a pump doses the melt into the second conventional compounding extruder, which besides gravimetric dosing units for the components, also has side-feeding devices and a further degassing unit. Thus, all the ancillary units are present for metering fillers and reinforcing agents, through additives and pigments, but also virgin material, and thus to manufacturing individual compounds.

In addition, KraussMaffei Berstorff has also equipped the ZE BluePower, ZE UTX and ZE Basic with the BPCTouch machine control system, which, according to the manufacture, improve user friendliness and reduce conversion time on product exchange with a user-friendly interface. The relevant ancillary equipment and downstream machines can be integrated into the software via standardized interfaces. It is now possible to assign access rights, in which each employee must legitimize himself at the integrated transponder by RFID chip card. Each operating step of each user is logged by the control unit. In addition, the energy consumption of the twin-screw extruder and ancillary equipment can be recorded.

The machine control unit also addresses the aspect of Industry 4.0 in the categories intelligent machines, integrated production and interactive services. The control unit links the order and production systems, and allows the order data to be retrieved at any time, presetting data to be imported, and processes initiated. The control system is designed with a remote maintenance interface for extended maintenance services.
