iPET

Alliance for Preform Tools

iPET

As announced at the Drinktec in September, Abba Systems, Inc. from Brantford in Ontario, Canada, and Mold-Masters Europa GmbH, Baden-Baden, Germany, will jointly be supplying complete preform solutions for processing PET. The two partners are offering new injection molds, mold conversions, retrofits and associated services worldwide under the name iPET.

The molds are intended for use on all common injection molding machines. The new systems are available with 2 to 192 cavities and for cooled part removal units that can hold up to four cycles. Patented iCool technology permits uniform cooling of the entire preform surface, so that hot spots can be avoided and cycle times shortened. The design of the “iFlow” manifold improves balancing and reduces pressure loss in the system. Compared to deep-bored standard manifolds, shear is minimized as well. The valve gate technology was developed specifically for use with PET and reduces the otherwise typical PET wear. At the same time, crystallinity at the gate is lessened and maintenance on the machine is simplified. Combination of the two techniques results in production of energy-saving preform molds with improved color change behavior. Furthermore, the AA content is minimized.
