Innovations in Composites
Composites are much more than just the sum of their parts. With StyLight, Ineos Styrolution Europe GmbH, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is entering new territory in this field. It is presenting the first ever thermoplastic composite based on styrene polymers. Applications for the new material, which meets both, structural and aesthetic requirements, are initially expected in automotive engineering. For Novodur Ultra, a new acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which is distinguished by high toughness at low temperatures, high heat resistance and low emissions, is also envisaged primarily for the automotive industry as market. The new ABS Terluran White is targeted at the market for white goods. It can be regarded as an intermediate product that will allow customers to carry out the pigmentation themselves in order to achieve more flexibility for individual parts while reducing costs.
With the developed Low Emission Styroflex styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC), it is offering a material that meets the strict VOC guidelines for public buildings. In addition, it is characterized by good processability and noise damping. For applications with drinking water contact, the company offers Novodur SBM-90, an ABS. Special developments in the form of a new Styrolux grade of SBC are also available in the health care sector. A new development with high transparency and impact strength, as well as good flow properties, is being launched especially for manufacturing drip chambers.
