Improving Processing and Flame-Retardant Properties
Besides distributing partner products, Velox GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, has expanded its business activities and is now also offering its own development services under the brand name PrimeTec. According to information from the company, these services include both new individual developments as well as modifications covering a wide product range. In addition, Velox is extending the range of PPA products it sells from its partner Pentac Polymer GmbH, Gross-Umstadt, Germany. These products are suitable for high service temperatures and can be customized for specific applications. Besides Pentamid AHT1 and AHT2, the expanded product range now also includes Pentamid AHS, a blend of PA66 + PPA. With a glass fiber content of 30 to 60 %, AHS offers high mechanical strength and is a suitable metal replacement for service temperatures up to 235 °C, while AHT1 (310 °C) and AHT2 (300 °C) are formulated for higher temperatures.
Another new product is Asaclean PF from the Asahi Kasei Corporation. This is a high-temperature grade without glass fiber reinforcement, which is specially suitable for purging high-performance thermoplastics such as PPS, polyetherimide (PEI), polyetherether ketone (PEEK), polysulfone (PSU) and other polymers. It has good heat resistance and can be used at temperatures ranging from 280 °C to 420 °C, according to the distributor. So this grade could be employed not only for rapid color or material changes but also for hot runner purging and machine shutdowns/sealing.
In the area of additives, Velox is introducing the products Adins Clay and Adins Fireproof from its partner Tolsa. These products, based on a modified magnesium silicate (sepiolite) with a needle-like structure, can be used as synergists in virtually all flame retardant systems. Besides having improved mechanical properties, the additives form a carbonized layer and so reduce the release of heat and smoke. Also being featured are Waradur multi-purpose wax additives and new development Voelpker wax 4418 from Völpker Spezialprodukte GmbH. The latter is a patented biological ester wax based on renewable vegetable waxes and suitable as a multi-purpose plastics processing aid.
