Equipment Expands the Processing Options
Illig Maschinenbau GmbH Co. KG in Heilbronn, Germany, has focused on the increased performance of in-mold labeling in thermoforming by means of technical improvements as well as enhanced automation. The IC-RDM 70K forming, filling, and sealing machine coupled with the RDML-70b unit for the flexible decoration of different cup shapes will be exhibited in its latest development stage. With a forming area of 680 mm x 300 mm, the machine works with an 18-cavity mold, whereby 17,000 rectangular polypropylene cups per hour are decorated simultaneously on all four sides plus the bottom.
In addition, Illig will show the PHF product handling system, which integrates the functions of de-stacking, quality testing, and packaging. After de-stacking, the products can be filled into bags which are then stacked to fit into standardized carton sizes. Controlled conversion procedures permit a faster change of formed parts and thereby more flexible product changes. The product handling unit will be demonstrated on an RDK 54 thermoforming system with a 12-cavity mold for producing cups made of transparent APET film with antiblock additive.
