Hyper-nucleation agent Hyperform HPN-20E

A New Boost for Polyolefins

Hyper-nucleation agent Hyperform HPN-20E

Milliken Chemical, a business unit of Milliken & Company, Spartanburg, USA, is increasing the performance horizons of polyolefins with an advanced nucleation technology. Unveiled at K2007, the hyper-nucleation agent Hyperform HPN-20E is a cost-effective way of modifying the properties of polyethylene (PE) as well as a solution for optimizing polypropylene (PP).

The nucleation agent with approval for food-contact applications positively influences the crystallization behavior when added to PE or PP. This can improve important properties of the material. They extend from improved barrier properties, through an optimized balance of stiffness and impact strength, to improved quality appearance. The agent can also result in weight and material savings, as well as processing advantages, such as shorter cycle times, lower warpage or minimized shrinkage.

Originally developed for the PE blown film market, Hyperform HPN-20E is the first commercially available nucleation agent for polyethylene. The improved physical, optical and barrier properties that it can achieve in a range of linear PE grades allow novel film structures to be achieved. The agent is also suitable for processing by blow molding, rotational molding, injection molding, injection-compression molding, and extrusion. The properties of the nucleation agent can thereby be advantageously used in a large number of other PE and PP applications, such as automotive parts, domestic appliances, closures, material handling, sheets and thermoformed products.
