Windmöller & Hölscher KG (W&H), Lengerich, Germany, a specialist for machinery in the flexible packaging market, introduced a new cooling system for its blown film extrusion lines at K 2019. The updated cooling system is the latest development its Arctis cool ring family.

As stated in a press release, the cooling system has been designed for applications that require very high performance. Applications that are particularly challenging to run benefit from the increased process stability of the updated system.

Output Record

“We analyzed all elements of the cooling system, reworked and optimized it, including the new development of some individual components”, explained Martin Backmann, Head of R&D for blown film at W&H. For one component, W&H has reached an exclusive licensing agreement with Addex, a North American company specializing in cool ring technology, for use of their Intensive Cooling (IC) technology.

“The Varex II has been designed even down to the smallest detail as a high output line. With this new cooling system, we reached a new output record – and this is with a real product,” said Dr. Torsten Schmitz, Head of Business Unit Extrusion at W&H.

On Monday evening at the K, W&H demonstrated the new system running a maximum output of 1,559 kg per hour on a 400 mm die.
