High-pressure metering machine Type HK 135
Team for Filter Maker
In cooperation with Hennecke GmbH in Sankt Augustin, Germany, Filtrair, the Dutch manufacturer of air filters for industrial use, was able to achieve a lasting boost in production. Polyurethanes have played a major role at Filtrair for a long time. High strength, low weight and corrosion resistance are the material’s qualifying features for the complex filter cartridge frames. In the past, however, quality problems occurred due to a high reject rate. The aims were a significant increase in quality plus faster, two-minute average cycle times in order to achieve an overall component production time of six minutes. Together with AutoRIM, a hydraulic press manufacturer, and the raw materials supplier BaySystems Büfa, Hennecke developed a corresponding plant. The heart of the new plant is a high-pressure metering machine (type HK 135) with a modern MX mixing head. In order to achieve the required cycle times, it was decided to design a configuration with a total of three presses arranged in a semicircle around the metering machine. The mixing head connects to the respective cavity by means of a pivoting boom. Object of particular pride for the design engineers is a system that was developed in close cooperation with a mold maker. Hereby, the filter insert is already fixed in the mold before the mold closes, thus integrating it seamlessly into the PU filter frame.
