With the new HiQ G2 machine generation, Herrmann Ultraschalltechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Karlsbad (Baden), Germany, emphasizes the aspects of digitalization and visualization during ultrasonic welding. All physical elements of the ultrasonic welding machine and the connected accessories, as well as all process steps and sequences are modeled in detail as a “digital twin” in the control software. This includes sensors and actuators as well as complex connected equipment, such as cameras or scanners. Components and functions can thus be configured and parameterized to meet the needs of the application, the system and the operators.

Smart Workplace of the Future

The welding process and even the complete machine cycle can be modeled in the control platform and constantly monitored via supplied process data. It is thus considerably easier to integrate upstream and downstream testing and additional options – a step toward the “smart workplace of the future.”

Guided mold exchange with RFID-coded tools and automatically clamping devices also makes it easier for the customer to reliably change over products. Incorrect combination of welding program, oscillating units and devices are no longer possible. The correct starting position for the application is also automatically set by the system. It is thus possible to manufacture a batch size of one economically, even with series machines. A multistage message management notifies the user about faults and other information in plain text, and proposes simple corrective measures. The new control platform is set up so that future topics such as predictive maintenance and data mining can be easily added.
