At Hennecke GmbH in St. Augustin, Germany, the main focus is on improvement of processing techniques. Among other issues, attention is on a new discharge system for continuous applications in the production of sandwich panels and slabstock foams. The special feature here is the way in which the liquid mixture of raw materials is applied over the entire width of the foaming area within the production line, enabling foaming reaction to start at the same time. While current discharge systems either use several mixing heads or mechanical distributors, Hennecke applies nozzles arranged in a semicircle. According to Hennecke, this improves the mechanical quality as well as insulating properties of the rigid PU foam if used for continuously produced sandwich elements. With slabstock foams, the new system not only yields good foam quality. It also shortens transition sections due to changes in formulation or color, which means less waste is produced. Having conducted flow simulations and test runs under real conditions concerning easy handling, cleaning as well as reusability, Hennecke considers the product ready for a wide range of applications and for the market. Moreover, the enterprise offers novel sophisticated mixing heads as well as demonstrators from various fields of polyurethane applications.
